Hemp fabric absorbs water well, making it an ideal material for coasters.
The vibrant hemp fabrics were hand woven on traditional wooden looms and dyed with natural plant ingredients by skillful Hmong craftswomen.
The patterns were hand-drawn using the H’mong batik technique. People used metal pens dipped in melted beeswax to draw on the raw fabric. When the wax dried, they dyed the fabric in indigo. Later, beeswax was removed by boiling the fabric. Thus we have bright patterns on a dark blue-indigo background. H’mong people are famous for this technique. With their skillful hands and imaginative mind, they can draw thousands of unique designs.
